Minecraft is a ridiculously popular open-world game that gives you the freedom to explore and build whatever your imagination can conjure.
The Survival mode of Minecraft features an experience point system in which you level up to enchant and upgrade your weapons and armor, repair items, and a lot more.
While the most natural way to obtain experience and increase your level is to simply play the game the way it was intended.
However, that might not be the fastest or most efficient way to level up your way to victory.
After all, many of us would prefer to spend our virtual days building, farming, and relaxing. Activities that are not exactly optimal for obtaining experience orbs in Minecraft.
This is why we’ve summed up the best ways to get XP in Minecraft in this article.Â
Killing Hostile Mods
Technically, any mob you kill will give you XP. However, hostile mobs such as Zombies, Creepers, Spiders, and the like, usually give out the most experience points.Â
And some mobs will provide more than others. The Ender Dragon, for example, will give you an astounding 12,000 XP the first time you kill it. However, it will only give you 500 XP once you respawn the dragon.
The more you explore hostile environments such as caves, mines, and temples, the more likely you will encounter these creatures and level up.
One good tip is to go out at night when these mobs spawn more frequently.
Slay Piglins
Killing piglins can be a great way to farm XP in Minecraft. There are a couple of ways you can go about it too.Â
The first method is to go to The Bastion Remnant, a structure that spawns a specific type of piglins called Piglin Brute.
This mob uses an axe to hunt you relentlessly. When killed, these mobs provide 20 points of experience.
The Piglin Brutes are no pushovers, so this challenge is reserved only for the skilled and the overly prepared.
Another way to gain XP from piglins is to build a trench. Dig a pit with open trapdoors with a deep drop so that you only have to deliver a hit or two. Then, make a shelter with slab windows.
That way, you can hit them without them being able to hit you. You can also wait until several of them have fallen so you can slay them all, but that can get trickier if they overwhelm you.
MiningÂ
Mining is also a fast way to gain XP in Minecraft. Iron ores, coal, nether gold, nether quartz, lapis lazuli, diamonds, redstone, and emeralds all give experience points when mined.
Mining iron or nether quartz.Â
Mining nether quartz is actually one of the fastest ways to gain XP. While the trek to the Nether is dangerous, it is well worth the effort.
Stay safe, mine as much as you can, and try not to get lost in the depths of the Nether.
Mining diamonds can also provide many experience points, even more than nether quartz. As any Minecraft veteran would know, the only caveat is that they’re not exactly easy to come by.
Smelting
Cooking certain ores or foods can earn you a little extra XP. Cobblestone and iron are great to gain some XP since they’re pretty common.Â
However, raw gold, Nether gold ore, and Ancient Debris will give you the most points, with 2 XP for each.
Also, note that the Furnace will store whatever amount of XP when you haven’t taken the item out.
So if you were to break the Furnace without taking the item first, you’d still get the XP.
Breeding Animals
This is probably one of the safest ways to get XP fast in Minecraft. First, you’ll need to settle down in a place where you can grow wheat and vegetable farms to have enough food to breed animals.Â
Once that’s done, you can lure two of each animal into your farm. That includes chickens, pigs, cows, and sheep.
When you have a good enough space for each animal and surround them with a fence, you’ll be able to start breeding them.
Chickens can be bred with any seed. Pigs love carrots, beetroots, and potatoes. Cows and sheep are good with wheat.
You can even do laps on your farm while feeding as many animals as possible.
There will come the point where they’ll no longer be able to breed. When that happens, kill the adult animals for a little extra XP and start over.
Disenchant Items
While not precisely the fastest way to get XP, you can disenchant them with the Grindstone and get some experience.
This can work really well if you find yourself with many enchanted items you don’t have use for. You’ll get to declutter your chests while also earning extra XP.
Fishing
Fishing is an extremely underrated way of farming XP in Minecraft. While it can be daunting at first glance, you can get a lot from fishing, not just experience points.
You can get food, treasures, and precious resources that don’t always come easily.Â
You can even step away from the keyboard (go AFK) with a small, easy-to-make contraption that keeps pressing down your mouse button.
Trading With Villagers
Villagers can be a great source of experience points for those willing to put in the effort. Villagers that are available for trade usually have a profession.Â
For experience, farmers, cartographers, and librarians are the best ones to trade with. However, when you’re just starting trading, it is easier to do so with a Fletcher since you can trade sticks for various items.Â
Each profession has five career levels. Every villager trade will reward the player with around 3 to 6 XP or 8 to 11 XP if the villager is willing to breed.
Bottle o’ Enchanting
Since you’ll be trading a lot with villagers, you’ll eventually catch wind of this fantastic item. These bottles have experience points that you gather after breaking the bottle.
You can find them in chests near pillager outposts and some shipwrecks. However, the easiest way to get them is to trade with a villager who’s a Cleric.Â
Cleric villagers are usually in village Churches. You can also turn unemployed villagers into a Cleric by crafting a brewing stand and placing it next to the villager.
After a few trades and leveling up their career, the item should become available.
Create A Farm In The End
There are many ways to build XP farms in Minecraft. One of the most popular lately has been an Enderman farm. So, here is a very well-explained video with several different ways to build one.
Create a Monster Spawner Farm
The process is a little bit more straightforward than with an Enderman farm.
