Fallout 4 is easily one of the most popular games of the decade. To the point where it’s still being played by hundreds of thousands of people to this day. While Fallout 4 is not the strongest one of the franchise, that title arguably goes to New Vegas, it’s still in the hearts of many fans around the world. The desolated lands of Fallout 4 offer hundreds upon hundreds of hours of fun for anyone who becomes engrossed in the world that Bethesda has laid in front of us.
And of course, Fallout 4 wouldn’t be one of Bethesda’s hits if the community didn’t immediately start creating their tweaks by modding the game beyond belief. While the PC and Xbox community have a larger array of mods at their disposal, PS4 players don’t have to worry about missing out since there are plenty of mods that will surely increase Fallout 4’s replayability tenfold.
Some of the best Fallout 4 PS4 mods will give you the chance to change the seasons of the land, create and customize a wide array of weapons, add several tools to the game’s building system, and a lot more.
SimpleSeasons
Are you tired of looking at the same familiar wasteland that you’ve played in for hours on end? Many gamers who play Bethesda games such as Fallout and Elder Scrolls series are used to dedicating hours upon hours playing without noticing. That’s because the worlds that the studio has created are so engaging and full of life that it’s hard not to get lost in their beauty. But, if I have to be completely honest, it can get dull at times. This is especially true for the setting of Fallout 4. And it is where The Simple Seasons series (SimpleGreen, SimpleYellow, SimpleRed, and SimpleWhite) comes in.
While the game does a terrific job at making the player feel as if this world has been devastated by nuclear fallout, it does make the scenery a bit monotonous at times. Regardless of where you look, the ruins of what once was a thriving retro-futuristic civilization are surrounded by dying trees and desolate land.
Maybe you feel like a change of scenery is exactly what you need to get you excited and back exploring the game, or maybe you think it makes more sense lore-wise that the life on the planet would’ve found a way to go back to what it was before. After all, the events of Fallout 4 do take place over two hundred years after the Great War, so it’d be fair to expect the world to go back to how things were.
And not only that but to have complete control over what season you play in sounds like a neat idea. It’s no wonder then that the community praises SimpleSeasons so much. Here, you’ll be able to choose between the jaw-dropping seasons of fall, winter, spring, and summer. Every season looks unique, with foliage and vegetation very distinct from each other, which should be more than enough incentive for you to circle through them on your playthrough. Note that the seasons won’t circle automatically, so you’ll have to change them manually before starting the game. The modder makes it pretty straightforward to do so. Easily one of the best mods available for the PS4.
Any Mod Any Weapon
As you can figure out from the name alone, Any Mod Any Weapon is nowhere near being remotely lore-friendly, immersive, or balanced. It does, however, bring a lot of fun and crazy opportunities to mix up your gameplay. This mod allows the player to modify any weapons from any mods in any way they can think of. This way, you’re able to craft and attach parts of weapons at your heart’s content. While some people might think that a mod like this opens a whole different can of worms (and they’d be right), the creator of this mod has managed to make it work somehow.
The compatibility of this mod is unbelievable, especially considering the amount of weapons mods available for Fallout 4 on the PS4 out there. However, keep in mind a few things: First of all, Any Mod Any Weapon does not add new weapons to the game, nor does it change the stats of the weapons already in the game. This mod relies on your use of other weapons mods so you can experiment more freely with them and create your own Frankenstein-Esque combinations of weapons that could make Fallout 4 feel more like Saints Row (looking at you, Dubstep Gun).
OCDecorator
OCDecorator is a dream come true for all of you decorators who spent hours trying to make the best player home possible if given a chance. Your home or settlement will truly become yours as OCDecorator allows you to customize it by locking movable objects and using all of the resources from the settlement builder. This means that the items you’ve collected can be placed as static objects without being knocked over.
While the objects you choose will not be able to be knocked over, you will still be able to move them through the crafting menu. Any object you pick up can be placed with the OCDispenser tool, which includes items from other mods. This mod might seem small in the eyes of many, but for those of us who like to plan and customize every little detail of our settlement, OCDecorator is a mod we can’t live without.
FreeMaker Ultimate PS4 Cheat Compilation
FreeMaker Ultimate PS4 Cheat Compilation is another must-have for content creators and those of us who enjoy tweaking every aspect of the game to our liking. FreeMaker is basically a cheat mode but with a lot more to offer. You’re given a room in which to do so rather than just a plain old cheat menu like many standard cheat mods. You’re able to craft an unlimited amount of materials at any chem station and even spawn NPCs.
So, if you’re the type of player who enjoys creating different, elaborate scenarios, need to create video content of Fallout 4, or simply like to be able to cheat every once in a while to play the game in a way that the developers never intended, then FreeMaker is one of the best cheat mods out there for Fallout 4 on PS4.
Better Graphics And Weather
It could be argued that one of the main reasons why mods exist is to enhance the graphics of our favorite games. The ones that often find their visual supremacy outdated within a couple of years. So it’s no wonder that some of the most downloaded mods are the ones dedicated to doing just that.
Improving the graphics of older games, or even current-gen ones, is one of the most satisfying ways of changing the virtual world for you to revisit it again. Bethesda games, such as Skyrim and Fallout, are perfect for this. The sheer replayability of those games is enough to have gamers coming back to them for years on end, and it’s always refreshing to do so when you find out that you can make them look so amazing that they’ll have nothing to envy from next-gen titles.
Better Graphics And Weather is one of such mods. The improvement in the graphics and weather effects is astonishing. The water effects and contrast between light and shadows make the Fallout 4 world feel more real than ever.
Commonwealth Visual Overhaul
Another mod that improves on the visual qualities of the game, Commonwealth Visual overhauls Fallout 4’s appearance. It removes fog and god ray along with providing some color adjustments to make the game ten times more vibrant than before. The contrast between light and shadow is also enhanced, and that’s enough to make a huge difference visually.
There are new and improved weather effects as well as fire, plasma, and laser FX. The modder recommends placing this mod on the lower side of the load order. As to be expected, this mod will probably conflict with other graphic or weather-altering mods. While not as grandiose as other graphical or weather mods, it is a personal favorite of mine because of its simplicity and the improvement on my computer’s performance that occurs because of the removal of the god rays.
FreeFall 4 – The Fallout 4 Director’s Cut
FreeFall 4 sets out to do something pretty simple in theory: to fix all possible bugs and glitches in the game. Well, it’s simple on paper. This is Bethesda we’re talking about, so of course, what this modder set out to do is nothing short of impressive. He gave himself the daunting task of fixing as many bugs and glitches present in the PS4 version of Fallout 4 and did an amazing job. All of those little annoyances that would’ve turned off a lot of players, and rightfully so, from the game are now gone. Not only that, but he keeps the mod updated, so you can bet that he’s dedicated to providing the best possible experience for all Fallout 4 fans.
And if you thought that fixing the game was a very impressive accomplishment on its own, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that that’s not the only purpose of this mod. You see, Deezire, the creator of the mod, also managed to restore a lot of the game’s content to the cutting room floor. So there will be a lot of “new” content that you wouldn’t normally have access to in the vanilla game, such as dialogue, full scenes with interactions, and items. It is as if his sole objective was to give PS4 players to experience the game as it was meant to be from the beginning, and you know what? He succeeded in his goal.
Upgrades Extended
Upgrades Extended is one of those mods that feel like they should’ve been in the game, to begin with. Not because Fallout 4 was missing something, but more because it adds a lot of what’s already available in the game to make it more enjoyable to the point where it’s sound to wonder why the developers didn’t do it in the first place. Upgrades Extended does what the name implies. It extends the upgrade system of a bunch of weapons to make them viable for the late to end game.
RPGs often fall in terms of weapons provided to the players. Developers often give players a lot of cookie-cutter weapons at the beginning of the game that will be rendered obsolete after just a few quests. Another route developers take is to give you the option to enhance the weapons you get to the point where you can keep them for your entire playthrough. Bethesda often falls in the former, and this mod allows you to play the game as if it were the latter.
The creator of this Fallout 4 PS4 mod also goes out of his way to make sure no weapon feels overpowered, which would probably defuse a lot of the enjoyment of the game. In fact, the stronger weapons, while powerful, often are expensive in terms of crafting materials. This mod is one of the best for gamers who want to revisit the Fallout 4 world with a new game without tweaking too much about the experience. But it can easily be enjoyed by those who’re just starting out their Fallout 4 adventure as well.
Wacky Weapons Workshop
The Wacky Weapons Workshop, or WWW, is one of the most fun mods out there and a surprising one to be available on the PS4 version of Fallout 4, considering that Sony doesn’t accept external assets in their mods. Wacky Weapons Workshop basically introduces alternate versions of all craftable weapons in the game without affecting the ones already available in the game. So none of these wacky weapons will randomly appear in the game or be wielded by NPCs. This mod allows the player to have a very distinct set of weapons that won’t be found anywhere else in the game, which adds to their uniqueness and fun mechanics.
USO Base Game
USO Base Game, or Core Component Of Unlocked Settlement Objects, is a pretty basic settlement building mod that takes advantage of all of the assets of the game for settlement building. The maker of this mod did the best job possible, providing the limitations that Sony has placed on their mods. And he manages to add in-game items to the workshop mode that don’t belong there.
The mod also reorganizes items into more intuitive categories for a lighter hardware load, adds custom retextures, several structures to build mode, buildable NPCs, and various tools. USO Base Game is worthwhile for those who enjoy building in Fallout 4 on the PS4 and don’t want to feel like they’re missing out on several similar mods available for PC or Xbox. This is one of the most complete mods available on the PS4 and one that deserves all the praise it has gained.
Dismemberment Overhaul
Dismemberment Overhaul‘s goal is to answer a question that a few psychopaths have asked themselves while playing Fallout 4 on the PS4 after finding out there are mods. And that is how come everybody dies immediately when shot in non-vital body parts? And it’s thanks to those psychos and the mastermind behind this mod that we have Dismemberment Overhaul. I’m pretty sure you can guess what’ll happen to your enemies with this beauty installed.
So if you were to shoot a guy in the arm that he’s holding a gun with, his whole arm would blow off, he’ll lose his gun, and be able to run away in agony as you chase him. The only limb that the NPCs can’t live without is their heads, of course, which also means that you will be able to kill anything as long as it’s a headshot. There is another version of this mod without the instant death headshot, but c’mon, where’s the fun in that? Overall, a mod that I wouldn’t call essential, but that definitely adds novelty and enjoyment to the game.
