Minecraft has become one of the top best-selling games of the decade and with good reason as I covered on another post. There’s a lot of room to explore the world. You’re free to put your imagination to the test with all the possible creations you can come up with. However, no matter how many buildings, villages, or castles you build, or how many times you defeat the End Dragon, the vanilla Minecraft can get stale after a while. Â
It’s not that hard to see most of what the game has to offer, and while its barebones structure is part of its appeal, I’d say it falls short in terms of content sometimes.
Mojack has tried to resolve this with more frequent updates, adding stuff to the game. And while some of them add fun mechanics or new places to explore, sometimes it is not enough to have just bees. So what happens is that if you want to do something different, then you have no other choice but to download a mod.
Some mods can be really fun, adding new quests or simply tweaking certain gameplay elements. Sometimes it is not enough to just have a few mods here and there, so that’s why I bring you a few of the best and most popular modpacks so you can play Minecraft with a whole different tint.
SkyFactory 4
You know SkyBlock, right? That mod that puts you on the top of a floating island with few resources so you can build your way around it and expand, essentially creating your world around you as you advance. SkyFactory 4 is like that, but with more features, a lot more. If you want to spend hours of your life dedicated to a Minecraft modpack while staying engaged and enjoying the freedom and challenge that comes with making your own world from scratch, then SkyFactory 4 should be on your bucket list.
Sevtech Ages
This is a progression based Minecraft modpack in which you start with nothing and have to climb your way up through different ages. The beginning is very rudimentary as you would expect caveman to be until you advance and crafts become more sophisticated, allowing you to create better tools and build different blocks—a sort of trip through civilization for those who enjoy a rewarding progression system.
Blightfall
As someone who’s very into the quest and adventure aspect of Minecraft modpacks, this has become one of my favorites. Blightfall is a combination and adventure map mod that adds magic and tech mods to the mix and blends them beautifully into the setting where you have to survive on a hostile alien planet.
This mod has over 200 quests, dozens of new ores, and an entire plot. The level of detail that has gone into creating this experience makes it feel like its a game all of its own.Â
 Omnifactory
This Minecraft modpack was created as a deeper and more complete tech-based mod while also removing a lot of the grind that comes with a lot of other tech mods. The early game differs from other modpacks of similar function and scale in the fact that it is easier, a bit more player-friendly. Mobs and exploration remain somewhat unscathed, so you can focus only on the progression provided by the mod without altering gameplay a whole lot.
Stoneblock 2
Sequel to the Stoneblock modpack, this one is based on Skyblock. The premise is simple; you start in a room surrounded by stone and can create your way around and out. Your imagination and the resources around you are your limitations.
The main and most obvious difference is that you’re surrounded by stone instead of spawning on an island in the air. There are no ores and no surfaces, but with sieves and magical crops. I’ve spent more hours on this modpack than I care to admit. Besides, you get all the fun of Skyblock without fearing to fall or having to spend precious resources on platforms. Sign me in!
Questing Mayhem
Yo, I heard you liked quests! Over ten-year-old meme aside, of you’re the kind of player that drifts from the main storyline to complete each and every single quest on your quest book, then I cannot think of a better modpack for you. This ‘small’ modpack has over 80 mods with a total of, wait for it, over 800 quests, and with new ones being added with every update! Talk about nearly infinite content. Questing Mayhem has nothing to fear to the likes of Skyrim and Witcher 3, a fun experience with a lot to do!
All The Mods 3Â
This is a Minecraft modpack for the most adventurous and daring of you as it has most of the big names mods such as Thaumcraft, Ender IQ, Termibal Expansion, and more. Not only that, but it also includes several smaller, lesser-known mods and is constantly adding more with each update.Â
Of course, despite what the name implies, this does not contain every single mod in existence, but it is just as bananas as if it did. Definitively a must-try for any Minecraft veteran who wants has seen it all and wants to go deeper into the rabbit hole.
Dragon Block C
While not exactly a modpack, I felt like this was meant to be on this list since it changes the core mechanics of Minecraft so much that you may as well be playing a blocky Xenoverse. This mod is a love letter to all of Dragon Ball fans. It comes with a storyline following the events of Dragon Ball Z with fun nods to the original Dragon Ball as well as GT and, more recently, Super. There’s a level progression system that has a bit of a learning curve, but it’s still pretty straightforward. You can choose your faction, alignment, and race. There are dinosaurs, recognizable landmarks such as Kami’s Lookout and Namek, and a lot more!
This mod also comes with Scouters, Sayian Armors, and Space Pods to reach other planets. There are new ores and mechanics. You can also collect the Dragon Balls to gain new or valuable items. A trip down memory lane in the blocky world of Minecraft.
Witchcraft and Wizardry
Again, not exactly a pack, but a mod expansive enough to be considered a bunch of different mods stuffed into one. This one, just like the Dragon Block C one, changes the mechanics of the game to the extent of making it feel like an entirely different beast. This time, we’re transported into the world of Harry Potter add some RPG elements into the mix, along with a huge map to explore.
The map in and of itself is impressive enough, but this was created by The Floo Network, a team of modders that you can tell are big fans of the Harry Potter franchise as they’ve included even the smallest details to make the world feel as fleshed out as it does in the books and movies.
RLCraft
If you’re the kind of person who likes to suffer, then this is for you. As someone who thrives (and occasionally rages) at difficult games, I found a place in my heart for this modpack. RLCraft is survival taken to the extreme, the RL stands for Real Life, giving you more stats to be worried about besides hunger, like thirst and temperature. And just like in real life, you’re bound to be attacked by all sorts of monsters and Eldritch abominations at every corner.
If that doesn’t sound fun enough, there’s another neat little feature. And that is that every time you die, you’ll spawn somewhere different, at random. Let that sink in. When I mean random, I truly mean that. You could appear in the middle of the desert with no water, food, or shelter anywhere and surrounded by arachnid-like monsters. You could spawn in the middle of the ocean and drown.
With over 120 different mods, there’s no way you’ll not find something new at every step. Not to mention the very basic mechanics have changed, so you can’t just punch trees anymore, you’ll have to create flint tools, which are a challenge to make in and of itself. A lot of people might say that this modpack is hard to love, and I do agree it is not for everybody, but it is definitively the modpack that everybody should try at least once.
